FAQs
How often will I have sessions?
The frequency of sessions is dependent on several factors. During our intake session, I will gather information about you and your goals which I will use to make my professional recommendation. Most people see me on a weekly basis. Ultimately, it is up to you how often you have sessions.
What can I expect during my intake session?
The intake session is an opportunity for us to meet face to face and begin to get to know one another. I will review important details regarding topics such as confidentiality, your rights as a client, what you can expect from me, and my practice policies. You will have ample opportunity to ask me any questions you have as well as address any concerns. We will discuss what brings you to therapy and what your goals are so that I can create an individualized, holistic treatment plan for you. Session frequency will be determined during the intake session as well.
Do you accept insurance?
I am not In Network with any insurance companies but can assist you in getting the most of your Out-of-Network Coverage so that your out of pocket expenses are lower.
Do you use a sliding scale?
If your insurance plan does not cover mental health or therapy is still out of your budget, that doesn’t mean you can’t work with me. I offer a sliding fee scale to help those with budgetary restraints make therapy more accessible. Ask me how to qualify.
When can I have my sessions?
I will work with you to find the best fit for your schedule. However, please be aware that the most popular times* fill up first. If your top choice isn’t available, I do keep a waiting list for high demand days/times. We can get started with what is available and then shift your session time when your preferred space opens up. If you have a busy schedule, you may find that telehealth (video) sessions best meet your needs.
*the most in demand times are 3:00pm and later.
Do you offer telehealth?
Yes! Many of my clients have found that they love the convenience, comfort, and added confidentiality of video sessions. I love that my clients are more relaxed and often bring up topics they would ordinarily hold back. And my favorite part? Getting to see your beloved pets!
What is telehealth and is it private?
When we say telehealth, we are referring to any services provided via technological or remote means. This includes: video, phone, text, email, etc. People most commonly mean video sessions when they say telehealth.
The service provider I use, Simple Practice, for video sessions and direct messaging is end-to-end encrypted and fully HIPAA compliant. Please feel free to address any questions and/or concerns with me.
I’m a teen and am worried you will tell my parents everything I say. Do I have a right to confidentiality too?
Yes, you absolutely have a right to confidentiality in your counseling sessions! In fact, confidentiality is the cornerstone of counseling. However, until you are 18, your parents also have a right to be kept up to date on the progress of your therapy. To that end, and in the interest of everyone being on the same page, I will occasionally inform your parents/legal guardians what we are working on in therapy (e.g. sleep hygiene or strategies for managing anxiety) and let them know how they can best support you in meeting your goals. If you are concerned about how this works, please feel free to bring it up with me during our intake session.
Will I receive a diagnosis from you?
The choice to receive a diagnosis or not is a personal one. Some people prefer not to know and do not like to be labelled, feeling that a diagnosis places them in a box. Others feel more comfortable once receiving a diagnosis, feeling that it better equips them to address their mental health head on. I will respect your wishes on this matter. Either way, we will be working together on addressing your symptoms and helping you become the best version of yourself.
Are you available to consult with my other health professionals?
Yes, absolutely! I am happy to consult with your psychiatrist or other any other care providers you would like. Prior to this, I will just ask that you sign a release for me to do so.
Can you provide me with a note to excuse me from work or school for my therapy sessions?
Yes, absolutely! I am happy to provide you with a note as needed. Prior to this, I will just ask that you sign a release for me to do so.
